Browse Nodes
From AffiliateBang Wiki
Many people choose to build their stores without using browse nodes. For those do use them, it's somewhat like learning how to drive, ride a bicycle, etc. Some people will catch on instantly, but many will "fall off" at first. The main thing is to keep trying and it will all eventually "click" in your mind. Don't feel badly if you don't learn it the very first time you try. One of the most common mistakes people make when starting with browse nodes is to confuse them with ASINs. The easiest way to tell them apart is that ASINs almost always have at least one letter in them, and nodes only consist of numbers.
Browse node searches can be a very useful resource for site building. In many instances, they let you refine your search to a specific product category beneath a search index. For our first example, let's say you want your category to only list the Wireless Reading Device. In your admin area, if you click on Find Nodes under Basic Options and type in Kindle, you'll see a wide variety of results. In addition to the Kindle itself, you'll see covers, book lights as well as a few Kindle cases as well. When you click on the link that says Kindle: Amazon's 6" Wireless Reading Device (Latest Generation) B00154JDAI , You'll see a paragraph describing the product, and underneath that are a list of nodes that looks like this:
- Electronics 172282 > Categories 493964

- Kindle Store 133140011 > Categories 133141011 > Kindle Devices 2102313011
If you put the node of the parent category in your category area, Electronics 172282, it will pull in everything in the Electronics category that is associated with the Kindle, including Including power adapters, anti-glare screens, replacement batteries and about 2,500 other products. The best way to use the browse nodes to get the results you want is to use the one that is most specialized to what you want to display. If you notice at the very bottom, Kindle Devices have their very own child-node category, 2102313011.
In order to add products by node, you click on Edit Categories, add your category name and ID, change the Search Type to the parent category and paste in the node numbers where it says node:. In this case, you would paste in 2102313011 .
Bear in mind that not all browse nodes are this easy to use. Lets say you want to only display Hoover bagged upright vacuums in a category, but a search of the browse nodes with that terms shows pages and pages of results. In order to narrow it down to the specific brand, you can paste in the browse node for upright vacuums, 510110, and also add the keywords Hoover bagged. Your category will now only show Hoover bagged upright vacuums, eliminating all other brands and styles of vacuums. Remember, you can also minus a keyword as well. So in this case, if you had canister vacuums showing up, you could remove them by using -canister in your keywords.
