Inserts
AffiliateBang allows you to combine inserts and categories so you can add unique information to your categories. If a category and an insert share the same ID, both will be displayed together with the insert information displayed above the products.
Click on the Edit Insert link to create a new insert. If you want to edit inserts you already have, click on the insert's name.
Page name: This is what people will click on to visit the page with the insert. It shows in the top and/or side of your store front, depending on your preference. It should be informative but not too long. (About Us, Shipping, Site News)
Page ID: The page ID will show up in the URL. Only use letters, numbers dashes and underscores Do not include any spaces. (books, site-news shipping, aboutus, 123, books2) If you create two inserts with the same page ID, only one will be displayed. If a category and an insert share the same ID, both will be displayed together with the page information displayed above the products. This will be covered in depth in the Categories section
Priority: This is the order that your pages of inserts will be displayed in. High numbers will be displayed near the top, lower numbers at the bottom. Choosing to sort alphabetically overrides this.
Top: Some themes display pages across the top. If this box is checked, the page you have created will display there.
Side: Checking this box will display a link to your page in the theme's sidebar. If you wish to link to your page from another page, you may want to have this box unchecked.
URL Only: Having this box checked tells AffiliateBang that the text entered into the box below is a URL. This is good if you wish to link to another site or a non-AffiliateBang portion of your site. For example, if you have a blog on your site, you can paste in its URL such as www.blog.mysite.com and your visitors will be able to click through to your blog from any page on your store site.
The editor: Fill the WYSIWYG editor with the text or information that you want on the insert page. You do not need to know any HTML to edit your page, but you need to have Javascript enabled to use the editor. Most computers have their Javascript enabled by default.
The submit button will save any changes you have made to your insert.
PLEASE NOTE: After you create an insert, there is a link labeled 'Delete this page'. Clicking on this will immediately delete the page. This cannot be undone.
Content Boxes
Although Content Boxes are not necessary to building your store, many users like them because they allow you to add important information, banner ads (including AdSense) or other content to the sidebars of your site. These boxes can be added to your Main Page, your categories pages, your Items page, and/or your Cart page. You can create a different box for each one of these pages, or use the same box for them all. Content Boxes use a WYSIWYG editor, so you do not need to know any HTML to edit your page, but you need to have Javascript enabled to use the editor. Most computers have their Javascript enabled by default. You can also turn off the WYSIWYG editor and switch to plain text if you prefer.
Categories
Categories are how your products are displayed. This is the main part of your store. Click on create new category to add a category to your store. If you already have categories, click on the category's name to edit that category.
Category name: This is what people will click on to visit the category. Use something descriptive, but not too long. (Laptops, Books, Gardening Equipment)
Category ID: The category ID will show up in the URL. If a category and an insert share the same ID, both will be displayed together with the page information displayed above the products. If you create two categories with the same category ID, only one will be displayed. Only use letters, numbers, dashes (-) or underscores (_) but do not include any spaces. (books, shipping, aboutus, 123, books2)
Keywords: This is what products will be searched for, as if you had gone to Amazon and entered these words into the search box. Sometimes, AffiliateBang may find items that are completely unrelated to your keywords, like a potholder in the middle of your MP3 players. This is NOT a bug in AffiliateBang, but an issue on Amazon's end and is usually an example of "keyword stuffing" in an attempt by a 3rd party vendor (not Amazon) to sell more products. If something like this happens, you can use minus keywords - mp3 player -potholder for example.
Alternately, your keywords can be a list of space-separated Amazon ASIN numbers. If it is a list of ASIN numbers, only those products will be displayed.
Do not use asterisks (*) or quotes (") or else AffiliateBang will produce odd behaviors.
Search Type: This is the general section of Amazon that you wish to use to search for products. It should be relevant to your keywords.
Parent category: You can leave this at None to have your newly created category be a main category. If you choose a previously created category from the drop-down menu, your new category will become a subcategory of the category chosen here. Subcategories are allowed to have further subcategories, for further organization.
Priority: This is the order that your categories will be displayed in. High numbers will be displayed near the top, lower numbers at the bottom. Choosing to sort alphabetically (under Store Settings) overrides this.
