SEO-friendly URLS

Let's assume your niche store is about birthday cake pans. By default, a URL to one of your category pages might look something like this:

http:// www.yourstore.com/?action=cat&category=wiltoncakepans

The URL to one of the items in that category might look something like:

http:// www.yourstore.com/?action=item&itemid=O000HCENKN&category=wiltoncakepans

When you choose to Enable SEO friendly URLs in your Store Settings area, the urls will look something like this:

http:// www.yourstore/?action=cat&category=wiltoncakepans

And the item URLs will look like:

http:// www.yourstore.com/product/wiltoncakepans/Wilton_Giant_Cupcake_Pan_O000HCENKN.html

Additional Customization

The Store Settings area also allows you to customize your URLs further. Find the boxes marked:

• SEO Category URL formatting: category/[#category].html
• SEO Item URL formatting: product/[#item].html

To change the URL, click into the box and change the first word in the box to the desired word.

Make sure to leave [#category] and/or [#item] intact

Assuming you changed your category URL to birthday, all the category URLs on your site will now look like: http:// www.yoursite.com/birthday/wiltoncakepans.html
